Walk on Grass Barefoot (Just Like A Celebrity)

It's different and calming

Today we’re proud to announce our first-ever “celebrity” post.  Thank you to Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow (and mother of two) for inspiring today’s activity!

As you may know, sometimes celebrities and movie stars get themselves on some weird and wacky diets.  (We’re not here to judge, but we’ve read People magazine once or twice.)

A few years ago, I read that Gwyneth Paltrow is on a “macrobiotic” diet.  I’d heard that word before, of course, but I never knew what it means.

Well, the internet has many articles all about the macrobiotic diet.  It seems to involve a bunch of vegetables and brown rice.  (We’re not here to judge.  We like vegetables and brown rice.)

The article also said that the macrobiotic diet encourages people to walk barefoot on grass for half an hour each day.  [more]

Okay, most of us who aren’t movie stars don’t have a free half hour every day to go for a barefoot walk.  But . . . if you and your kids can find half an hour each week, please give it a try.

Walking barefoot on the grass feels different (we’re usually in shoes and inside.)  It also feels very good and very calming.

So today — if it’s not too cold where you live — try a barefoot, family walk.  Maybe start with five or ten minutes.  If you have a backyard, that’d be a great place to start.  A park would work, too.

Ask the kids how the grass feels on their feet.  Talk about how different it feels.  Does it make everybody feel calm?  Does it tickle?

We’re not trying to be wacky or act like celebrities here.  But it seems that Ms. Paltrow and other macrobiotic people are onto something here.

(Just in case we weren’t clear enough above, Gwyneth Paltrow did not actually contribute today’s suggestion herself.  We don’t know Ms. Paltrow.  But we do wish her — and her family — all the best!)
